on meditation retreats

a wise friend gifted this story to me.

meditating prior to a retreat feels like building a tent; you're trying so hard but this structure keeps getting knocked over by the wind and mess of life. and it's so tiring and discouraging setting up the tent every time it's knocked over.

at a retreat you have enough time to build a home inside yourself. it stands up a little bit better against the winds, but more importantly is a structure you care about and want to protect.

i went to spirit rock this weekend to start to build this home inside myself. it's coming, and it's quite beautiful. it's filled with plants + gossamer light + classical music + tea + soft silk + strong, warm stone.
