on compromise

as i'm getting older, i'm realizing just how important and innate compromises are in life. this is especially true in romantic relationships as these are often one's deepest and most intimate relationship.

the difficult part about compromise is that there is no right or wrong, if you push hard for your own values, wants, and needs to be the sole truth, that will definitely upset the other person. this pushing will feel like an overbearing partner who is selfish. so now you think, alright easy i'll just let them have anything they want! wow i'm so selfless. but unfortunately, that does not work either because first of all, no one can just be 100% subservient without completely just losing yourself and second, this does not make for a healthy relationship. always giving in makes one feel like an object rather than a person who feels and has opinions. at some point, one would explode and explosions are not great.

i guess what i'm saying is that one should strike a balance between being caring and thoughtful without losing identity and dignity.
