in these times it's important to remember what keeps us going. i've been trying to write more as an outlet and this is something i came up with last weekend in the midst of a crisis. i find the same theme reoccurring in my works but whatever lol. enjoy:
---
we live in a world
dull and vibrant
beautiful and tragic
brutal and magic
we try to hold
a sense of control
and attempt to be whole
to fill the inner hole
of meaninglessness
the never needing quest
to escape the distress
of the inevitable mess
of life after death.
we’re nothing more
and nothing less
than random life forms
that call this blue dot
that orbits around a yellow dot
our home,
amongst the vast unknown
space that
suffocates our notion
of self-importance.
get out of your city
go to nature and look at the stars.
the bar is set so high
and we’re conditioned to believe
that if we achieve
we can upheave
that gaping hole of nothingness
the hopeless question of life after death
can be put away if we just
trust this standardized process
of conformity and normalcy
defining the typical human life.
art is an escape
a description
a destination
a medium of creation
that lacks justification
and defines nations
and culture
and attitudes towards the universe.
we take ideas from our mind
or observations from our surroundings
and channel them into
music or pictures or films or essays or poems
that redefine and challenge the notion of what we consider to be reality.
fatality is the one shared experience in
our grand delusion that we matter
this is a love letter to creators
essentially the educators
to the consumptive public
in all of our republics
and our dictatorships
and anarchist rejections
and socially constructed
organizational structures that root us safely
in the comfort of ignorance and woefully hopeful belief that we are befallen in this world with some sense of order.
artists hoard the interpretative power
and SHOW not tell us how they think
and it’s up to us to agree or disagree with their perspectives.
respective to the way we operate today
with talking heads and authority figures
telling us what to think and how to feel and why we care,
this group of daring courageous brave individuals use their mediums as protests against the myopic distillation of the world we are spoon fed from birth.
optimistically we all have 100 years on earth:
from san francisco to perth to mumbai to paris to cairo
we meet the same fate and end up at heaven or hell’s gate
depending on your conception
of life after death.
because no one, not even the world’s best scientists have an idea of where we go after we die
what matters is now - today - and what we make of it.
you can either choose to live in blissful ignorance and fail to make a mark
or you can live to create and create to love
something that might change the mind of 1 or 10 or 100 or 1000 or 8 billion people
something that makes it easier for others to make it though this arduous, dangerous, ultimately pointless process we call life.
it’s up to you
