#2 Weeknight Wines and Pizza

Some quick housekeeping: I'm adding an “If It Matters To You” section at the end which will have some facts about the wines: where the grapes are grown, facts about the producers, etc. Stuff that not everyone knows nor cares about, but it's there if it matters to you.

I drank some good wines this week and had some good pizza. Pizza and Pinot are a common pair, but why not drink some other great wines with pizza? We've already decided that set pairings aren't that important. So, here are some Pinots and other friends of pizza and weeknights.

Blue Jay, Walt Wines, 2017

I've had magnums and double magnums of this wine (thankfully, not alone) and it's been fantastic. It's an intense and rich wine, with a great palate of blueberries and red fruits. Goes well by itself, some pizza, or whatever else you're interested in eating. Try it now, maybe save a bottle for a summer bbq with friends.

Classic Cabernet Sauvignon, Montes, 2015

This is a heck of a wine. It's absolutely delicious, fun, easy-drinking with nice ripe red fruit on the nose and a well-balanced, slightly acidic body to back it up. Drinks nicely with cards games and lots of laughter. Not to mention, at a price that ranges from $7-13 purchasing it is basically a daylight robbery of the winery.

"La Galoche", Domaine Saint-Cyr, Beaujolais, 2018

I can't really say “this is a heck of wine” twice, can I? Well, damn I should. This wine is as pretty in the glass as it is on the nose (floral, wild red berries), and on the palate (bright red fruits, spicy, balanced acidity). I drink this wine with a chill on it, slightly colder than cellar temp and I have yet to be anything other than 100% content. Good for fancy dinners and Cheers on Netflix after work.

Pinot Noir, Becklin Vineyards, Dowsett Family Wines, 2016

Two Dowsett wines in two weeks? Yup. This was fantastic. Drank with pizza + friends (who all brought some nice pinot). Aromas of bright wild fruits, and a palate driven by those same fruits + minerality + earthyness. This deserves 30-40 minutes to breathe before consumption and reach some of it's peaks, but will be perfectly fine if you don't have that kind of time. Need to impress? Bring it. Want to just hang with your friends? Bring it. Even better, get a pizza oven, make a lot of pizza and drink this wine.

Thanks again for reading, and please feel free to provide feedback. There'll be more on pinot + friends and pizza eventually because it's so damn good. Next, favorite reds of 2019.
