Object: Rustic Owl Figurine
Title: hardworking hoot
powerful gaze pierced by beady black bulbs
earned wisdom in urn form
daydreaming as an occupation
generations of dust and dirt twirl in unison
like confessions whispered into cackling bonfire
i'm rustic
i'm reborn
i'm ceramic-styled,
copper-tinted,
paint-peeled
weathered
through the weather of life
whether my choice or not
you might see me as
a gritty guardian
a frugal fortress
a serene statue
a melancholic monument
or simply
that bird on the bookcase
i'm stationary, yes
but i've taken flight all over
mothering cheerful daffodils
nursing rustic bestsellers
entertaining curious kittens
i drift by daylight and tango by twilight
if you blink you might miss it
but i won't dare to
i live by witnessing
welcoming the wonders
of the nocturnal nile
sweaty shuffles of aesthetically-inspired homeowners
h o o t
edgy entanglements of spiritually-confused lovers
h o o t
hardy heart-to-hearts of spontaneously-bonded buddies
h o o t
it's almost freeing how
no one hears what i sound like
and isn't that the greatest peace
to get by and fly
happily
hooting
