the pleasure of tumbling
down evergreen hills

i am both actor and director
worrying about place, placement of
multiplying masks, a personality taxidermy
the beasts of upstage and downstage
just mirrors for heaven and hell
purgatory, the in-between is a placeholder
trap door to my fears, feeding and festering backstage
what if the production fails spectacularly
what if i lose all my aesthetic credibility
what if i get struck by shakespearean tragedy
what will the faceless strangers think of me
what will i leave as a lasting legacy
what? then,
snap snap snap
lights flash, cameras on, music plays, audience blinks
everything everywhere all at once
